Biden Mandates More Ethanol In Gasoline - ZeroHedge Article Comments by KCT

I wrote the following email to friends and family today, after reading a ZeroHedge article on the federal government raising the level of ethanol in gasoline sold in the USA.
Dear Friends and Family:
I've been researching what is the best fuel for engines. Ethanol attracts water and has a corrosive effect on engines. The more ethanol, the more wear on engines. Ethanol comes from US corn and is not a greener alternative. Corn production is genetically engineered, requires millions of gallons of RoundUp herbicide, and is only competitive price-wise with oil due to federal subsidies of the corn industry. Ten percent ethanol lowers a car's fuel efficiency or MPG by 5-7%. Ethanol can give a higher octane level, but lowers the BTU rating for the gas, or the overall power present in the gasoline. The feds want to increase ethanol percentage as a means of combatting oil supply problems. I don't think it is the answer. Older vehicles may not run on 15% ethanol gas. Some say the plan is to force people into purchasing much more expensive all electric cars. This is not wild conjecture because many states are adopting the Agenda 2030 proposal that includes a carbon neutral energy policy and the phasing out of combusion engines by 2035. There are numerous drawbacks to this plan: lithium and other rare earth mineral shortages; lack of infrastructure for recharging; short range; lithium battery explosions with fires that rage for 8 hours or longer; an electricity generation capacity that is not sufficient to meet grid needs if everything is electric; child labor for rare earth minerals in Africa; inadequate battery technology; etc. There is more to this story, including elite white papers from the World Economic Forum and Rand Corporation where the plan is to phase out personal vehicles, with only the rich having access, and the bulk of the population relocated to dense "smart" cities where they rely on public transportation. The freedom of having a car with the ability to travel great distances in the USA may become a thing of the past. Yesterday I filled up for the first time on 89 octane ethanol-free gasoline at Costco for $5.95 per gallon. I live in a humid area where ethanol is even more likely to attract water into the engine. I don't want to support GMO and Monsanto. Oil is a renewable resource (no, it's not dinosaurs we are extracting from 5,000 feet below the ocean's surface). But that is another matter for another day. Here is a conservative view on recent gasoline policy changes in the US:

A teacher colleague responded:
Hey Mr. X,
We have high density housing going up (literally) all over Orange County, CA -- a fairly fiscally conservative area. We seem to have no choice in the matter. As they build these, I count the windows and try to add up how many cars each monstrosity will bring. Talk about too many cars! Oh, and, there’s no talk of improving public transportation, like the OCTA, or the installation of light rail. I am on city buses in my job 3-5x/week, and let me tell you, no bueno! Not safe, too crowded, and VERY inconvenient. I’m not surprised these clowns are grabbing at straws to shore up gas prices, but, it seems to me that we are already going down the road of killing the CA car culture, probably the traditional American car culture as well. I wonder how many federal bucks go into helping the land barons build high density housing. Interesting topic, Sir. I’ll watch the vodeo. I’m getting pretty sick of this bs.
My response:
Mr. K:
It is always good to hear from you! What do they want to do, turn Orange County into some dystopic megalopolis? There are already too many cars and people! Thankfully, you live in a rustic enclave, set apart from the noisy masses of Southern California. And both your and the missus' parents are nearby. So there is not much need for travel for recreation and elder care. I hope your 30 minute commute to work continues to be tolerable. There will be an impact if these high-density projects move forward and these new residents jump onto the highways at the same time you do. I hope your hybrid and EV vehicles continue to meet your needs.

I send my best to you and yours!
Another acquaintance responded:
I agree and already know the 1st part of this, I don't subscribe to the hype of the what if and such. But I do know a lot about ethanol fuel. Which is why non-ethanol is the only gas for generators or other sensitive running equipment. And it is because Hawaii has a large portion of its population dependent on generators we can buy non ethanol fuel. In most states that is not an option.
[I asked him if generators on the mainland have to be powered by ethanol-mixture fuels. He said yes, they would.]
In the mainland there are more options for public utilities so an off grid scenario is considered a choice not a requirement.
