Good judgment is necessary for advancing along the spiritual path. Without a clear connection to one's inner voice spiritual aspirants will be in the deepest sense lost.

In these pages I have attempted to demonstrate how an intelligent, spiritually-dedicated mind functions: how it thinks; how it feels; how it aspires. To advance along the spiritual path, your thinking needs to be clear and penetrating. And you need great aspirations. It is my hope that this website reflects those qualities. I have tried to demonstrate the holistic, integral nature of our every experience and aspiration, whether it be sexual, emotional, intellectual, or spiritual. All of these levels are part of one seamless expression of our being. Each level inhabits the others, and it is only through embracing them all that a true, full-bodied spiritual transcendence can occur.

While it is essential to be emotionally and physically sensitive, it is equally important to have an intelligent, critical awareness at work in your mind. Human civilization can be a plague to spiritual aspirants. You need to be able to separate truth from deceit -- the real from the unreal -- at every moment. You need to know what is the right thing to do at any given point in your life. That sense of conviction -- or righteousness -- must be spontaneous and forceful.

To enable this to happen -- to have the moral and energetic momentum to be successful on the spiritual path -- you need God's help. But for God to be of assistance to you, you must actively exercise good judgment, for without it your inner access to God will be muted and unable to provide you with the direction you need. Without clear access to the spiritual intuition from which good judgment arises you will be, in the deepest sense, lost. You need a clear connection to this spiritual voice inside you; without it, spiritual growth, enlightenment and, ultimately, spiritual transfiguration will be impossible.

This autobiography, then -- as well as the rest of my posts at this website -- is intended to sharpen, and to make more sensitive, your judgment. Without good judgment -- a spiritually informed judgment -- your heart will be like a lamb among wolves. You need a keen shepherd protecting you at all times. For without this guidance -- without this watchful care -- no person will be able to realize his or her spiritual potential.

Jiddu Krishnamurti put it in his 1927 book, The Kingdom of Happiness (*):

"It is in trying to follow the orders, the ideas, the visions of others that you go wrong. I can point out my ideal of Truth, of perfect peace, of loving-kindness, but you must struggle and arrive at it for yourselves. I can lay down the principles of Truth, but through your own Voice, through the obeying of that Voice, you must develop your own Intuition, your own ideas, and so you will come to the goal where we shall all meet. This is for me the big thing in life. I do not want to obey anybody, it does not matter who he is, so long as I do not feel he is right. ...Instead of being the ordinary and the mediocre, you will listen to this Voice, cultivate this Intuition, and so discover new avenues of life, instead of being swept aimlessly along the path of another." Osho (*) says much the same:

"Always remember, whatsoever I say to you, you can take it in two ways. You can simply take it on my authority, 'Because I say so, it must be true' -- then you will suffer, then you will not grow. Whatsoever I say, listen to it, try to understand it, implement it in your life, see how it works, and then come to your own conclusions. They may be the same, they may not be. They can never be exactly the same because you have a different personality, a unique being. Whatsoever I am saying is my own. It is bound to be in deep ways rooted in me. You may come to similar conclusions, but they cannot be exactly the same. So my conclusions should not be made your conclusions. You should try to understand me, you should try to learn, but you should not collect knowledge from me, you should not collect conclusions from me. Then your mind-body will grow. My message is not a doctrine, not a philosophy. My message is a certain alchemy, a science of transformation."

Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov on the inner voice as one's true Master:

"The Master appears as an inner, intelligent manifestation within the man. Therefore, recognition of the Master comes from within the soul of the pupil. Many people perceive certain thoughts through suggestion, and think that this is their Master speaking to them from within. However, there is a great difference between the inner voice of the Master and the suggestion. Suggestion is an act of coercion. The speech of the Master is an act of freedom. And therefore, when the Master speaks from within, the pupil is inspired."

It takes a lot of energy to align oneself with Truth. The world -- the bulk of one's social relations and cultural experiences -- seeks to diminish your life force and inner directedness. I've joined an on-demand movie service recently, with unlimited movie viewing. I cannot tell you how numbing it is to sit and passively imbibe all this visual information, regardless of the quality of the narrative. I feel a stunting or suffocating effect upon my brain function. Reading a book is far more involving and creative an activity, but even that is a shadow of the intellectual aspect of simply Being. One's job and familial role often militate against intensity and truth. It's compromise upon compromise, physiologically and psychologically. You must be coming down from the mountain top, literally, on a daily basis to maintain even a modicum of truth throughout your daily demands. You must have recourse to quietude and a physically rejuvenative practice (which is for me hiking, though other activities may achieve the same result) in order to maintain a dymanic connection to Truth as it is relayed through and interpreted by your limited bodymind.
